Best bets Bendigo races, tips, odds; Raceday focus with Gilbert Gardiner

Herald Sun form analyst Gil Gardiner is confident Gelignite Jack’s recent Bendigo performance has lite the fuse for further improvement and expects that to come to the fore at same venue.

BEST BET

GELIGNITE JACK (R7 No. 6, $3.20)

Game in defeat last start behind a smart one in Shamwow and needs only to hold form to be winning this for Matt Cumani yard.

NEXT BEST

TEMPLAR (R3 No. 8, $5)

Hasn’t fired in two runs this preparation, when supported in the market both times, but should be ready to peak now with blinkers on first time and trainer Michelle Payne in the saddle.

VALUE BET

HALCYON DAME (R2 No. 4, $8)

Still a maiden after six runs chased smart types last preparation, including Group 1-winner Amphitrite, Wild Planet and Kaplumpich.

THE TRAINER

ARCHIE ALEXANDER

HALCYON DAME (R2 No. 4, $8)

She will have a good chance. Probably the best of my three, she’s trialled well ahead of her first run for the stable. I think she’ll run well.

ROMAIYA (R5 No. 6, $8)

He’s an interrupted preparation — a fair few issues — so he wouldn’t be fully wound up for tomorrow but he’s got good ability and we’re just hoping for a good run rather than a winning run.

DANESAI (R8 No. 8, $51)

An old jumper just having a fitness run, he’s building up to better things, the 2200m should be a little short.
